The Code of Hammurabi is a collection of 282 laws that were enacted by Hammurabi, the king of Babylon, around 1750 B.C. It's considered one of the most important monuments in human history. The code is the longest, best-organized, and best-preserved legal text from the ancient Near East. 

The code covers topics such as: Abatement, Adultery, and Assault.  The punishments in the code varied based on social status, such as slaves, free men, and property owners.
